This ethereal landscape, in the middle of Alentejo, a rural and deserted region of Portugal, was known for its grandiose mines at small town Minas de São Domingos. The mines were so vital for this region, that this whole town was built to gather and give shelter to the thousands of employees the mines had, at the beginning of the 20th Century.

Nowadays, the region is infected with sulfur and the old abandoned miles were filled with contaminated water. No life exists and no one wants to change its destiny.

So, I took the land and made it mine, creating a park where people could visit, explore and know all the history behind this secluded place. Through this journey of knowledge, visitors would be able to start their voyage through an underground Museum, mimicking the concept of mining itself. A place that would help tourists to understand the work that envolves mining and, at the same time, promote a region forgotten in time.

The Museum, with two great staircases that showed the entrances, was a symbolic corridor filled with trees, where spaces would appear, left and right, in a orderly fashion, allowing the visitor to contemplate their exterior, as well as their interior spaces.
