In Guangzhou, the capital and most populated city of the province of Guangdong (Southern China), an Open International Architecture Competition was held to bring forward ideas to renovate and empower an abandoned industrial location in the city center.

The main objective of this proposal was a possible merge between all the common Arts. This proposal would bring a new approach to China´s millennial society, now opened to the world as we know it. A decision was made to name it “The Arts Hub”, a place for gathering art projects, encourage communication between artists of all quadrants and an unwilling desire to learn, all under the same roof: a building for artists, by artists and with artists in mind.

The Project came to be as a building rising through its limitations. An entire block was occupied by the building itself, allowing to enter through several entrances of the main facades. A series of blocks, stacked in order, were set pieces of a whole building. Each block with its own use, connecting each use but without ever touching one another, apart from the wall facade built to accommodate the entire Arts Hub.

At the same time, a sense of scale and urbanity was given to this lot, which was the opposite of the whole industrial surroundings. The Arts Hub could be used as a place of education and communication, or as a simple place to visit and explore by itself. In the center, an abandoned industrial silo was transformed into an open Amphitheatre, allowing for all kind of work to be shown to the public or the local students.
